About ToolsPole
Engineering software and consultancy for yacht and marine design. Born from a passion for optimization, foiling boats, and computational engineering.
Our Story
ToolsPole was founded by a team of aerospace engineers from Politecnico di Milano who shared a common vision: making advanced engineering simulation accessible and efficient for marine design teams.
Our roots are in competitive sailing. Working on performance prediction for America's Cup campaigns, we experienced firsthand the gap between powerful but fragmented simulation tools and the integrated workflows that modern high-performance yacht design demands. Breva was born from that need — a single environment where parametric geometry, CFD, VPP, optimization, and data exploration work together seamlessly.
Today, ToolsPole serves yacht design studios, research institutions, and engineering teams worldwide. Our consultancy practice brings deep domain expertise in yacht physics characterization, while Breva continues to evolve as a platform for any engineering discipline that requires iterative, multi-fidelity design workflows.
Milestones
ToolsPole founded by three Politecnico di Milano aerospace engineers with a shared passion for sailing, optimization, and foiling boats.
First release of Breva — a modular workflow orchestrator built from the ground up for engineering design automation.
Selected by American Magic (NYYC) to provide performance prediction and appendage optimization tools for the 36th America's Cup.
Awarded EU funding to demonstrate HPC-accelerated yacht design optimization. Recognized as a success story by the European HPC initiative.
Continued collaboration with American Magic for the 37th America's Cup, expanding the toolset with dynamic simulation and real-time analysis.
Major platform redesign: new UI, enhanced plugin architecture, advanced visualization, and deeper third-party integration capabilities.
Our Team

Paolo Motta
Co-Founder & Designer
Aerospace Engineer from Politecnico di Milano with deep expertise in performance prediction, Velocity Prediction Programs (VPP), and appendage shape optimization. Paolo has worked on performance tools for American Magic during the 36th and 37th America's Cup campaigns, developing the simulation pipelines used to evaluate AC75 foiling monohull configurations. His background spans aero-hydrodynamic analysis, multi-fidelity CFD methods, and sail/rig performance modeling.

Luca Valsecchi
Co-Founder & Software Developer
Aerospace Engineer from Politecnico di Milano and lead developer of Breva. Luca specializes in dynamic simulation, mathematical model development, and software architecture for engineering tools. He designed and built Breva's modular workflow engine, plugin system, and visualization framework. Contributed to American Magic's 36th and 37th America's Cup efforts with dynamic simulator development and real-time performance analysis tools.

Marco Zanichelli
Designer
Aerospace Engineer from Politecnico di Milano focused on hydrodynamic appendage design and machine learning-driven optimization. Marco has pioneered the application of surrogate models and response surface methods to yacht design, enabling rapid exploration of high-dimensional design spaces. Key contributor to the ff4EuroHPC project, demonstrating HPC-accelerated yacht optimization for European SMEs.
